NFPA 1670 Machinery Rescue – Awareness

Introductory Information:

Participants will learn how to respond at the Awareness Level for incidents involving personnel who have become trapped, entangled or pinned in various types of machinery.

Opening Remarks:

Emergency Training Division has developed this Awareness Level training program on Machinery Rescue for emergency first responders. This includes public and private sector response personnel who may be the first on the scene of a machinery rescue.

Certification

Certificates of completion may be printed by the participant once a score of 80% or greater is achieved. The participant may take the quiz as many times as necessary in order to reach the 80% score.

In addition, each participant must complete the training on an individual basis. If you ask someone else to go through the program for you, you will not learn the information you will need to ensure the health and safety of Emergency Response Team members. This will render your certificate null and void.

Legal Requirements:

This training program is designed to provide you with the knowledge required to respond to a Machinery Rescue at the Awareness Level, as described by National Fire Protection Association Standard 1670, Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents (2009 Edition). At this level of training, you will be taking initial actions that will help to stabilize the incident until rescuers trained to a higher level of response arrive on scene.

In order to perform rescues from machines at the Operations Level, additional training will be required. This additional training should address rescues from machines found in many industrial facilities, such as conveyors, lift tables, gear drives, printing presses, and food processing equipment.
